Tuesday Squad goes global!

Really pleased to see our simple-but-effective 45min session get picked up and promoted globally on the weekly Swim Smooth blog. It was our first post-lockdown attempt to run a ‘red mist’ type session within our new 45min slot and it went REALLY well, thanks to some nice symmetry and synergy as well as a bit of pre-planning and of course TOP swimming by the super Tuesday gang. It happened there were exactly 30 swimmers who I could divide nicely into six coherent 5-person lanes. We then divided into 3 deep and 3 shallow end groups in order for everyone to have a good view of the centre’s only working pace clock - new one on the way! Despite their usefulness in guiding and fine-tuning pacing, we are using tempo trainers (‘beepers’) less at the moment - to minimise stress and increase time efficiency and distancing.

The set was (for 4 of the 6 lanes) 3x200, 10x100, 3x200 with 2 or 4 x200’s for the two end lanes. All lanes swam 10x100 in the heart of the set. Turnaround times were calculated to give all swimmers 10-20 sec rest after each 100 or 200m and were also - to create that ‘red mist’ challenge feeling - reduced by 10 sec in the last set of 200’s. It worked beautifully - all lanes completed their whole sets, with short rests, the odd spot of cramp (quite common in this type of set) and a lot of determination and camaraderie :)

Five fastlane ‘flumesiders’ Paul, Melissa, Ben, Julie & Ty after 4x200, 10x100, 4x200 in 45mins!
