Perfect River-to-River at record speed!

Sunday 17th Sept was Felixstowe Swimscapes 6th annual 'river-to-river' swim - a tide-assisted 6km from Landguard common, with the huge Port cranes behind, north to the Dip in Old Felixstowe. We had light winds, a cool (15C), calm sea and bright skies. A record number of 47 swimmers of all speeds, including many from the Swim Smooth squad, made it to the finish point for a catch up and some superb cake! It's never been a race but the conditions made for some really fast times this year, with first home, wetsuited Adam Spear of Felixstowe Swimming Club unofficially getting below the 60 min barrier for the first time, while Brendan Bennett, aged 15 and recently back from a successful Channel relay swim, was first skins, in just over the hour. But for many it was the sheer achievement of completing this distance in open water for the first time! A really memorable day.
