Menai Straits swim!

It’s one of those notorious stretches of water that appears to be ‘unswimmable’ … but, with the help of the nice people of Love Swim Run, I swam it! There were 12 of us, getting in at the slipway at Menai Bridge (Anglesey), whooshing under the huge suspension bridge, swimming full gas through a huge and fast-flowing eddy, diving in again and whooshing off again at a barely-believable pace.

It was exhilarating scenic and sociable - just how we like it! We swam through more eddys, down through ‘the swellies’ which Lord Nelson once described as among the most hazardous for sailors in the world. We covered over 7k in a little over an hour (av 57sec /100m!!!), with some nice long fast stretches as we approached the finish at Y Pheneli on the mainland side for a welcome pint at the local.

A tough and truly memorable swim!
